Life and Time

Shiva sits in silent meditation on a snowy Himalayan mountain top. Suddenly there is a great sound. Nandi, Shiva’s bull, gets alarmed and asks, ‘Where is the sound coming from?’

Shiva says, ‘Ravana is born.’

After a while there is another frightening sound. Nandi asks, ‘Now, what is this sound?’

Shiva laughs and says, ‘Ravana has now been slain.’

This is surely a Zen-style story. This is the story of Life from the perspective of Time.

I will try to give you the essence of it.

Shiva is the God of Time. Ramayan is a Great Epic, which has many events like Birth of Ravana, Birth of Rama, Rama's marriage to Seetha, Going to forest, ... and finally the killing of Ravana (means it spans many years).

But, to Shiva is seems to be a few minutes.

Like that we live long many years say 60-70 yrs, but in the infinity of Time, it is very much insignificant. (Just comparison it with lifetime of Earth which is 4.5 billion years)
